Second Sunday after Christmas

Theme: God is with us, our life is changed.

The book of Ecclesiasticus 24:1–2, 8–12

The Wisdom of God, pitches the tent of dwelling among the People of God. Here to rule, and take possession of the inheritance promised before time began.  The Old Testament people had a deep sense that God was with them, that they were the People of the Covenant.

Letter of Paul to the Ephesians 1:3–6, 15–18

Paul, writing to the community at Ephesus, reminds them, and us, of the rich blessings of God. How we’ve been chosen even before time began, to become God’s own children by adoption. Paul would have God enlighten our minds, so that we can see what hope God’s call holds out for us, so that we can see what rich glories await us if we are faithful to God’s promise. God’s choice of us as his people is part of the eternal plan. Around the Baptismal Font in the Cathedral are inscribed the words: “Once you were no people - now your are God’s People.”

Gospel according to John 1:1–18

The Gospel reading shows the eternal origins of the Word, and how the incarnation is part of God’s eternal plan.  The Word is the true light, that enlightens all peoples. Those who accept God made flesh and dwelling among us, to them will be given the power to become children of God. So the Christmas season not only informs us, it transform us. We rejoice and are glad!
